Think again if you are hospitality asset manager planning development of a new hotel here in the USA and you only associate “Made in China” with traditional manufacturing and predominately consumer goods. A Chinese company recently built and opened a 30 story hotel in only 15 days in that country. According to an excerpt from this News Feed story in Times: “The implications of the latest project seemingly go beyond simply adding to the Dongting skyline in a speedy fashion. “Construction is just about the only industry that has not been exported,” Alter explained. “But now the Broad Sustainable Building Corporation has designed a system that will let them build anywhere, to construction tolerances of +/- 0.2 mm.” Read and watch the video here if you are a hospitality asset manager and want ideas for building a pre-fabricated hotel. This is not the first hotel the company, and a producer of air conditioning systems, built. It previously built another hotel in only 6 days! According to the story and video posted in YouTube: “No stationary cranes were used in construction and there wasn’t single injury among the site’s workers. The finished building stood 15 stories and used prefabricated columns (the foundation was apparently already built).” Senior management executives and a hotel advisor looking for innovative ways to cut hotel development time can read more here. What does this mean from a hospitality management services standpoint? Essentially, that the building, after laying the foundation, which usually takes another six to eighteen months, can be significantly shortened and allow the hotel to serve guests sooner. If are a hospitality asset manager wanting to gain added market share, this could easily allow your hotel to open before the competition. More importantly, that it could penetrate the existing customer demand a year or more in advance of previous projections as well.
