Nightclub Consultants Tips to Minimize Certain Violence and Lawsuits

Bringing in outside nightclub consultants as a fresh set of eyes can go a long way to reducing and possibly eliminating the potential for some kinds of lawsuits. Unfortunately in the beverage and entertainment venue business, the mix of alcohol, egos, security issues and lively crowds can lead to someone getting hurt for a variety of reasons. Still and on any given day, the number of injuries reported just doing a Google search is staggering. Here is a recap of two recent lawsuits that involved shootings which were recently posted online along with what your establishment might do based on a nightclub consultants suggestions: 1. Alleged Failure of Nightclub Management to Prevent a Death – “The suit claims the bouncers failed to perform their job by not keeping uninvited guests such as Doe out of the private birthday party. The bouncers also refused to eject the party crasher because they knew him and failed to call police, according to the suit.” *Tip – Foresee ability and prevention are key to not letting some types of violence escalate. Staff, especially crowd control employees such as bouncers, may require specialized training to ensure they know how to act in advance of a problem. Obvious signs that a patron is about to become out of control and harm another person should be dealt with quickly. 2. Night Club Management faced with Not One, But Two Shooting Lawsuits – “Employees had a duty to provide a “safe place to gather” and should have screened patrons for firearms, according to a complaint filed.”** **Tip – It is important to understand what type of neighborhood your bar or club is located in and what activity from the outside may end up inside. Keeping weapons out takes a planned approach and special control and monitoring and surveillance equipment. The first defense is a good offense by contacting the local authorities on what to expect in terms of your patrons that frequent the existing bars and clubs nearby and what you should expect to encounter as well. In addition to these suggestions, we also publish other news and ideas as nightclub consultants at our INNsider Update© here.
