It is not surprising from a hotel expert perspective when you consider the rise in females travelling that women only floors are becoming popular both nationally and internationally. Although many hotels make it a point to cater to women’s requests, such as being located near elevators and providing certain in-room amenities, it does not go far enough according to many female travelers. – It was recently reported in the American Hotel & Lodging Association Smart Brief that many women prefer to be on floors that are exclusive to female guests only. They also seek out hotels that offer such an exclusive floor. – This is especially true where the amenities are also geared to the tastes of women travelers, not just the guys. According to the article: “influential and well-traveled Danish women” surveyed said they’d stay on a women-only floor because “it provides a sense of security; it feels more hygienic to know that the previous guest was also a woman and they prefer rooms tailored to women’s needs.” Read the full hotel expert news pick here. – Hotels in New York, Singapore and Washington, DC have ceased on the trend by adding female only floors. Another in Atlanta added a boutique lodging property that also features a women only floor reports these hotel & leisure advisors. There is also controversy on whether a women only floor is discriminatory and illegal. A couple years ago hotel management scrapped such a feature at its new J.W. Marriott in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
